Hi and welcome to Wonderfully Made Childbirth Education and Doula Services. I am thrilled that you are exploring the options available to you for your birth experience. Since the birth of a child is a very precious and personal experience to share with someone, I want you to have the opportunity to learn a little bit about me!
So many things have influenced my path, but none more than the strong, nurturing, and inspiring women in my life. Growing up in Northwest Florida, I was blessed to have women in my family who were not only committed to their families but also influential in their communities. They had amazing careers as well, yet still knew how to have fun and show their sassy side. While some of these phenomenal women have passed on, many of them are still a part of my life today! I had the opportunity during college to be a part of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Throughout my time at the University of West Florida, I held several offices in the sorority and involved myself in all sorts of campus activities. The women that I met and the relationships I developed during those years continue to play a big role in my life, as does the values and standards of ADPi. Since having my daughter in 2006, I have discovered a whole new group of women to whom I relate; ladies that I admire, and fearless females who encourage me - MOMS! I am thankful and blessed to have so many of these awesome moms around me!! On a daily basis, these women make a difference in my life, the lives of their families, their communities, and the world!! They are all my inspiration!
This brings me to why I have chosen to be a childbirth educator and a doula. I have always loved being around and working with women, children and babies. Having worked as a ballet instructor, preschool director, and special education teacher, I have had the opportunity to educate both children and their parents. I have always loved doing that, but often felt that I could not form the personal relationships that I wanted with my students and their families. Working with juvenile offenders and their families gave me deep-rooted relationships that I craved, but many times the outcome of the situations left me disappointed and wishing that I could do more to help. Struggling and searching for purpose, I felt I needed a career that was inspirational to myself and others and allowed me to continue developing relationships. Then I got pregnant with my daughter Catherine and I knew as soon as I started learning about the birth process that this was something that I for which I had passion. I was home with Cat exclusively for three years after her birth, but the desire to be a part of birth community never abated. In December of 2009, I decided it was time to pursue this new dream. From the moment I made that decision, excited to be a part of each and every birth that comes my way, things have simply fallen into place. Every day solidifies my belief that this decision was the right one and that I am living my purpose in life.
